ReaLM presented a Professional Development day at the RSA, Palmerston North in June 2011. Over thirty school and public librarians specialising in children and young adult's libraries attended from all over the central and lower North Island.

Bob Docherty – Literature Consultant: Best New Fiction Yr 6-10
Elizabeth Craker – Core Ed: “Book Talks” with an author live via skype (Gavin Bishop)
Miriam Tuohy – Librarian, Russell St School: ‘Book Battles’ – using web tools to promote reading
Holly Gooch – Professional Storyteller: Storytelling to promote all levels of literacy from Years 0 to 13
Literacy Tour of Manawatu Schools
This year we also undertook the challenge to promote reading and literacy by bringing authors and literacy experts from around the country into Manawatu schools.
We were able to offer 12 local schools the following literacy professionals:
Fifi Colston - Wellington based author/illustrator/artist
Silver Dunlop - Promoter and expert of Graphic Novels and Manager of The Badcave
Steve Barr - Screenwriter and Massey University Artist in Residence
Bob Docherty - Literature consultant
